Strong partners, healthy communities

Ed HoweOur goal at Aurora Health Care is healthier communities. We recognize that many other organizations and individuals share that same goal. That is why it is so important that we work not only for our communities but also with our communities.

We believe in the power of partnership. There is much we can achieve by working together.

We partner with our communities in hundreds of ways, and together we're finding better ways to tackle some of the toughest health challenges, from teen pregnancy to the epidemic of obesity.

In this annual report, our community partners do most of the talking. Their stories illustrate aspects of Aurora Health Care that may not be as visible as our work in hospitals and clinics, but are truly vital to our organization and the communities we serve.

When we work with a faith community through our parish nursing program, we're creating a new point of access for people who need care.

When we help Waukesha South High School establish a program for students interested in health care careers, we're bolstering the quality of tomorrow's health care system.

When we partner with community health clinics in Milwaukee to help them expand their reach, we're investing in Milwaukee's health care safety net for some of the poorest and most vulnerable members of our community.

When our caregivers work with the Hartford Police Department to train officers in the use of defibrillators, and when our visiting nurses work with a social service agency to take flu vaccinations to the homes of people who are elderly or disabled, we're saving lives.

These partnerships are strengthening our communities.

Since this annual report is about partnerships, I must mention a personal partnership that has meant the world to me - my partnership with my colleagues at Aurora Health Care. Soon those relationships will enter a new phase with my retirement. I want to leave with this encouragement for the many talented and dedicated people who make up Aurora: Keep at it. Find new ways to work in partnership with our communities. The work we're doing is important.

There are a lot of people counting on us.
