Welcome from the CEO
Purpose works at Aurora Health Care. We help people live well. It's what we do every day. It impacts our work across the spectrum of care: from wellness and prevention to end-of-life care. And last year was no exception.
2011 was a pivotal year in health care. Throughout the nation, health care continued to evolve as providers made plans for the changes that reform will likely bring. The impact of the economic downturn continued to be a factor in the success or failure of many ventures. In health care, we saw record low reimbursement rates and record high need for charity care and uncompensated care – with little change in sight.
Through it all, and now more than ever, we remained focused on making our purpose work. By always putting the needs of our patients first, the choices we needed to make were clear. In this year’s report, you will read about our leading-edge cardiac services that treat the rarest forms of heart disease and attract patients from all 50 states and a number of countries across the globe. You will learn that we earned Silver LEED® certification for the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton, ensuring environmentally friendly land use for generations to come. And you’ll find out more about how our caregivers are working together every day to find ways to improve clinical quality while lowering costs.
In 2011, we introduced new services, celebrated milestones and won awards. And all of it, the large and the small, supported our purpose - We help people live well.
We stand committed to making that purpose work for our 30,000 caregivers, 1.2 million patients and their families, and the communities we serve in Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
