Residency Program
Goal
The PGY2 Critical Care Specialty Residency Program is structured to provide specialized skills, knowledge and experience in critical care pharmacotherapy. Pharmacists completing this patient care-focused residency will be prepared to practice as clinical specialists in diverse critical care settings. Candidates interested in careers as clinical pharmacists or clinical coordinators in the intensive care unit setting are encouraged to apply.
Rotation Sites
Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center
- Wisconsin’s largest private hospital, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center is internationally known for its expertise in heart care. Located on the south side of Milwaukee, Aurora St. Luke’s also offers exceptional specialty care in areas such as cancer treatment, digestive diseases, abdominal/cardiothoracic transplant and neurology. It is the home of the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic. Aurora St. Luke’s houses 125 licensed critical care beds throughout five specialized intensive care units.
Aurora Sinai Medical Center
- A teaching hospital located in downtown Milwaukee, Aurora Sinai Medical Center offers unique pharmaceutical care experiences, including neonatal/perinatal care, geriatrics, Parkinson disease, internal medicine and medical intensive care.
Aurora eICU® Care Center (electronic intensive care unit)
- Aurora eICU® Care uses telemedicine technology, including early-warning software and advanced video and electronic monitoring, to connect off-site critical care specialists to ICU patients. The system is linked to more than 200 intensive care beds at Aurora’s hospitals throughout eastern Wisconsin, providing patient care around the clock. Pharmacists are on staff 24 hours a day at Aurora eICU® Care to monitor patients and provide drug expertise.
Specific Learning Experiences
The format of the residency is tailored to the interest, experience, aptitude and career goals of the resident. The resident will complete core learning experiences in medical-respiratory, surgical, neurological, cardiovascular, coronary and electronic intensive care, and customize the residency by choosing elective learning experiences based on individual needs and interests.

Candidate Qualifications
- Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy
- Eligible for pharmacist licensure in Wisconsin
- U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
- Graduate of a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency

Quality Benefits
Each resident is eligible for full-time employee benefits. This includes medical/dental insurance, 23 days paid time off and travel support.
Stipend
We update competitive salaries annually. The current stipend is $72,800.
Application Information
Each candidate must submit the following application materials: letter of interest, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation and pharmacy school transcripts. Letters of recommendation should be sent by the reference directly to the program rather than by the applicant. Pharmacy school transcripts should be sent by the school directly to the program rather than by the applicant. No separate application form is required. All application materials must be received by January 10. Letter of interest must specify which program you are applying for (PGY1 Pharmacy Practice - Milwaukee, PGY1 Pharmacy Practice - Aurora West Allis Medical Center, PGY1 Pharmacy Practice - Green Bay, PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency, PGY1 and PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration, PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration, PGY2 Oncology, or PGY2 Critical Care). Letter of interest must also specify your career goal, why you are interested in a residency, what you are looking for in a residency, and why you are applying for a residency specifically at Aurora Health Care.
