Current resident
Laura Beres, Pharm.D.
Previous education:
- Pharm.D. from the Chicago College of Pharmacy at Midwestern
University in Downers Grove, Illinois
- BS in Biology with a minor in Spanish from the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee
Short bio: I was born in Milwaukee and have
lived here all of my life, except for when I went to pharmacy school. I had never considered pharmacy until I starting working retail
pharmacy in undergrad and it sparked my interest in a career as a
pharmacist. From that point on, I worked in various pharmacy
settings, including retail pharmacy, outpatient hospital pharmacy
and inpatient hospital pharmacy. I also completed an inpatient
pharmacy internship during the summer months of pharmacy school.
On my time off, I enjoy biking, rollerblading and traveling. I
also value time spent with family and friends.
What factors did you consider most important when
choosing a residency? It was very important for me to choose a program that
offered both inpatient pharmacy experience and clinical ambulatory care
experience.
Why Aurora? I like that Aurora has a larger residency
class that I could belong to. Aurora also offers rotations at more than
one site, allowing the resident an opportunity to experience many
different practice settings. In addition, Aurora offers a program with
both inpatient pharmacy experience and clinical ambulatory care
experience.
Current rotations:
- Women’s Health
- Epilepsy/Neurology Clinic
- Adult Medicine
- Cardiology
- Infectious Disease
- Drug Policy
- Administration
- Transplant Clinic
- Anticoagulation Clinic
Year-long project: "Assessment of the implementation
of insulin pens in the inpatient setting"
Future plans: I hope to someday have a job as an
ambulatory pharmacist in a clinic setting.
