Kirstin KasternCurrent resident – Kirstin Kastern, Pharm.D.

Previous education: BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Pharm.D. from the Chicago College of Pharmacy at Midwestern University in Downers Grove, Illinois

Short bio: I was born and raised in the Milwaukee area. I became interested in pharmacy when I was in high school. On my time off, I enjoy hunting, fishing and camping. I also enjoy photography and value time spent with family and friends.

What factors did you consider most important when choosing a residency? I was looking for an organization that offered both inpatient and ambulatory care rotations. The variety of rotation options was also important to me.

Why Aurora? Aurora Health Care offers multiple rotation site locations at both large and small facilities. This allows for a large variety of learning experiences. I also found it important to be part of a larger residency class.

Current rotations:

  • Drug Policy
  • Transplantation
  • Family Practice
  • General Medicine
  • Joint Commission Preparation
  • Cardiology
  • Operating Room
  • Adult Medicine
  • Epilepsy/Neurology
  • Psych/Hospice
  • Administration

Year-long project: "Using ‘lean technology’ to decrease missing medications thru a series of rapid process changes.”

Future plans: I wish to be working in an ambulatory setting that has a connection with inpatient pharmacy.
