Shelley King, Pharm.D.Current resident – Shelley King, Pharm.D.

Previous education: Undergrad at the University of Alabama; Pharm D from Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy

Short bio: I am from a small town near the Gulf Coast of Alabama and I have never lived outside the state until now. I am loving Milwaukee so far, though, and am looking forward to my first snowy winter. Outside of pharmacy, I enjoy spending time with my husband and German Shepherd, reading, baking, going to movies and watching football (Roll Tide!).

What factors did you consider most important when choosing a residency? I looked for programs with a variety of clinical experiences, preferably in more than one practice setting. Residency class size, availability of teaching certificate, flexibility, location and hospital size were also factors I considered.

Why Aurora? Aurora offers many different clinical experiences in more than one hospital setting. They are also flexible with your schedule if your interests change throughout the year. All of the preceptors and program directors are very supportive and involved with the residents, making sure that we get the most out of all of our residency experiences. They are also valuable resources and educators. Additionally, Aurora offers a teaching certificate through Concordia University-Wisconsin, which will give me the chance to gain some academia experience. Finally, I felt the large residency class size of this program was an advantage.

Future plans: I am currently leaning toward pursuing a PGY-2 in Critical Care. I hope to become a clinical pharmacist in a large health care system and later pursue my BCPS. I would also like to be involved in academia.
