Erin Lydon, Pharm.D.Current resident – Erin Lydon, Pharm.D.

Previous education: Pharm.D. from the University of Iowa

Short bio: I am orginally from Batavia, Illinois but have spent the last few years in Iowa City pursuing my pharmacy degree. Though quite a change from Iowa, I am enjoying all of the festivals and activities that Milwaukee has to offer. I love spending time with my family and friends, being outdoors, golfing, traveling and of course, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes!

What factors did you consider most important when choosing a residency? Having a wide variety of rotations to choose from and flexibility in the program was important to me as I was unsure of what areas of clinical pharmacy I was interested in pursuing. I also hoped to have an opportunity to precept pharmacy students and be a part of a larger residency program with multiple residents.

Why Aurora? From the start preceptors and residents from Aurora described a very positive, friendly environment that offers a wide variety of clinical experiences in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Aurora also precepts a number of pharmacy students throughout the year and have opportunites for residents to get involved. The program fits with many of my career goals and I feel that it will provide a well-rounded clinical experience.

Current rotations:

  • Drug Use Policy
  • Geriatrics/Parkinson's
  • Oncology, inpatient
  • Adult Medicine
  • General Medicine
  • Family Medicine
  • Cardiology
  • Administration
  • Oncology, outpatient
  • Medical Intensive Care Unit

Year-long project: My project will involve researching and developing a safer, more effective way to provide medications for Aurora's patients who are in observation.

Future plans: I hope to be a clinical pharmacist in a hospital setting where I can help improve patient care in pharmacy practice. I have an interest in oncology but I plan to use this year to discover which area of pharmacy I would like to pursue further.
