Current resident
Kristina Phillips, Pharm.D.
Previous education: Pharm.D. from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison
Short bio: I grew up in Fond du Lac, went to college
at UW-Madison and am currently living in downtown Milwaukee. Outside of
pharmacy, I like to try new restaurants, take walks by Lake Michigan and
also enjoy photography.
What factors did you consider most important when choosing a
residency? The most important factors for me in choosing a
residency program were the variety of opportunities available, the quality
of the preceptors and if the program had other residents.
Why Aurora? Aurora’s community residency program
offered a wide array of clinical activities, from disease state management
to administration to clinics. Everyone I met at Aurora was very
welcoming and friendly! Milwaukee is also a great city to live in
with lots of things to do!
Current rotations: My rotations are longitudinal and
include disease state management, immunizations, medication safety and
practice management. I also spend one day per week at Aurora Sinai’s
family practice clinic and will spend another day per week starting in
January in the anticoagulation or anticonvulsant clinic. I staff
every third weekend in St. Luke’s outpatient pharmacy and also spend one
day per week performing ‘clinical shift’ activities which include blood
pressure screenings, transplant discharges, smoking cessation counseling,
giving immunizations, compounding and finding answers to in-depth
questions that patients or providers have!
Year-long project: “Maximizing Medication Therapy
Management”
Future plans: Ideally I would like to work a couple
days per week in an outpatient or community pharmacy setting while
spending the rest of the week in a clinic setting. I also have an
interest in teaching and precepting pharmacy students. I’ll see what
the future brings!
