Current
resident – Ryan Servais, Pharm.D.
Previous education: Pharm.D. from the University of
Wisconsin-Madison
Short bio: I grew up in Green Bay, moved to Madison for
school, and am currently living in Oak Creek. Outside of pharmacy, I
enjoy playing, watching, and attending (especially Packers and Brewers)
sporting events. I also like hanging out with family and friends and
anything outdoors, including running, camping, skiing, and traveling.
What factors did you consider most important when choosing a
residency? Important factors for me included the variety of
rotations offered, size of the residency class, and an opportunity to
work in several different hospitals and ambulatory clinics throughout
the year. Furthermore, I valued flexibility and how friendly and
knowledgeable I perceived the preceptors to be during Midyear and the
interview process.
Why Aurora? Aurora offers flexibility in changing rotations
throughout the year, has a large residency class, and offers experience
in a variety of practice settings. Unlike other residencies I looked
into, I like that one resident has the opportunity to staff the ICU.
Also, I felt Aurora has strong leadership and is dedicated to retaining
residents as employees if desired.
Current rotations:
- Geriatrics/Parkinson’s Disease
- Drug Policy
- MICU
- Cardiology
- Joint Commission Preparation
- Infectious Disease
- Transplantation
- General Medicine
- Adult Medicine
- Administration
- Critical Care
Year-long project: “Assess services and percentage of time spent
on different pharmacist functions across the Aurora Health Care system”
Future plans: At this point, I am interested in critical care
and hope to become an ICU pharmacist for a large hospital or hospital
system. I will use this year to enhance my ICU skills as well as explore
other areas to further define my interests and future plans.
