Current resident
Kylie Smith Kylie Smith, Pharm.D.

Previous education: Pharm.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison

Short bio: I am originally from the Green Bay / Fox Valley Area and currently living in my hometown of Freedom. Outside of the residency I enjoy running, grilling out with friends and family, playing yard games, attending any type of sporting event, especially Badger games, traveling, hiking, painting, and best of all, dreaming about Hawaiian beaches.

What factors did you consider most important when choosing a residency? When choosing a residency program, I considered the opportunities to interact with preceptors to be most important. Other important factors were variety of rotation opportunities, location, and size of the residency class.

Why Aurora Baycare? I chose Aurora Baycare because it offers the opportunity to be at many different hospital sites within Wisconsin, and was also very flexible in scheduling. I felt that the variety offered by the Aurora Baycare residency would give me the greatest learning opportunities throughout the year. I also chose Aurora Baycare because it was a new extension of the program and offered opportunities for input in establishing the residency program.

Current rotations:

  • Infectious Disease (Baycare)
  • Cardiology (St Luke’s)
  • Administration (Baycare)
  • Adult Medicine (St Luke’s)
  • Drug Policy (Baycare/St. Luke’s)
  • Family Practice Clinic (St Luke’s)
  • Critical Care (Baycare)
  • Medical ICU (Sinai)
  • General Medicine (Baycare)
  • Neonatal ICU (Sinai)

Year-long project: “Evaluation, assessment, and implementation of an inpatient anticoagulation service at Aurora Baycare Medical Center”

Future plans: Unsure at this time. I enjoy many aspects of pharmacy including hospital and retail settings. I currently have a strong interest in critical care and emergency medicine. I hope the variety of experiences throughout the year within the residency program can help identify areas that I would like to pursue.
