Current resident – Nick Van Gompel, Pharm.D.
Previous education: University of Wisconsin - Madison - BS Biochemistry, Midwestern University-Chicago College of Pharmacy - Pharm. D., Aurora Health Care - PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency
Short bio: I currently live in downtown Milwaukee and enjoy taking advantage of all that Milwaukee has to offer. When I'm not working on residency projects I stay busy enjoying the lakefront, Brewer games, and numerous downtown attractions.
Factors considered most important when choosing residency: I wanted a program that offers numerous clinical rotations taught by preceptors who are specialists in their fields. The array of clinical services that pharmacists are involved in was also important in my decision.
Why Aurora? Aurora offered all the aspects that I was looking for in a residency program. Having an interest in administration, the PGY-2 Health System Administration offered great opportunities in a large network. Additionally, the staff at St. Luke's was also very welcoming and eager to teach residents. The larger resident class was also a draw for me.
Year-long project: I am examining our current inventory management practices in place at hospitals and clinics across the healthcare system and will assess the impact of implemented inventory control tools.
Future plans: I am exploring what opportunities are available within Aurora upon the completion of my PGY2 residency.
