Current resident
Megan Vingers, Pharm.D.
Previous education: Pharm.D. from the University
of Wisconsin-Madison
Short bio: I was born and raised in Janesville,
WI. During college, I worked for five years in a community pharmacy
chain. While at UW, I played on the BellaDonna Women’s Ultimate
Frisbee team for four years. In my spare time, I love to play
Ultimate, spend time in the northwoods, play with my three-year-old
niece, and hang out with friends.
What factors did you consider most important when
choosing a residency? Features I personally valued while
choosing a residency program were class size, variety of rotations
offered, and the number of years the program had been running. I
wanted to be sure I would have a wide range of experiences
throughout the year in a program that was well developed. Aurora
also offers opportunities to practice at other institutions and see
other practice styles.
Why Aurora? When I was looking at various
programs, Aurora had all of the features I previously mentioned. In
addition, Aurora has many preceptors who are very dedicated to their
work, and many past residents are still employed at Aurora. This
really speaks for the institution’s ability to retain residents as
employees.
Current rotations:
- Psych/Hospice
- Internal Medicine
- Medical ICU
- Transplant Clinic
- Neonatal ICU
- Cardiology
- Drug Policy
- Infectious Disease
- Administration
- Adult Medicine
Year-long project: "Assessment, development and
implementation of strategies to improve pharmacy order entry at
Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center"
Future plans: At the moment, I’m undecided
on whether I will pursue a second year residency, specialize in a
certain area of pharmacy, or other unlimited possibilities.
I’m sure my plans will change SEVERAL times this year. But
that’s what this year is all about!
