Current resident – Alicia Zhu, Pharm.D.
Previous education: Pharm.D. from the University of Pittsburgh
Short bio: As a child, I lived in China and Israel before I transplanted to the States (Pittsburgh, PA) with my family at the age of 11. Since then, I've been a huge fan of Pittsburgh sports (Go Steelers! Pens! Oh and Buccos too!) and Pittsburgh food (Primanti's sandwiches, Heinz ketchup etc.). In my spare time, I enjoy painting, dancing, playing video games, relaxing and having a good time!
What factors did you consider most important when choosing a residency? I was looking for a residency program with a large residency class, flexible curriculum and a wide-range of rotations, expertise of the preceptors, teaching/mentoring opportunities, and the ability to train at an institution that offers both inpatient and outpatient oncology services.
Why Aurora? The Aurora residency program provides me the opportunity to experience a well-rounded clinical education, and the ability to customize the rotations to meet my career goals and interests.
Current rotations:
- Psychiatric
- Drug Use Policy
- Administration
- Oncology, Inpatient
- Adult Medicine
- Oncology, Outpatient
- Internal Medicine
- Cardiology
- Medical Intensive Care Unit
- Geriatrics/Parkinson's
Year-long project: System-wide evaluation of current practices and outcomes of pharmacist involvements in the ambulatory care setting. Create a business plan for the expansion of ambulatory pharmacist services if a positive return on investment is concluded.
Future plans: I am planning on pursuing a PGY-2 Oncology Specialty Residency, and practice as a clinical pharmacist with goals that align with the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative.
