Oncology Residency Program

Residency Program

Goal

The PGY2 Oncology Specialty Residency Program is designed to provide residents with the knowledge and skills necessary to practice in a specialized oncology setting. Candidates interested in a career as a clinical oncology pharmacist in the acute care or ambulatory setting are encouraged to apply.

Rotation Sites

Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center
  • Wisconsin’s largest private hospital, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center is internationally known for its expertise in heart care. Located on the south side of Milwaukee, Aurora St. Luke’s also offers exceptional specialty care in areas such as cancer, digestive diseases, abdominal/cardiothoracic transplant and neurology. Aurora St. Luke’s houses the system’s largest inpatient oncology population and also provides care for a large outpatient population via the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic.
Aurora West Allis Medical Center
  • A community hospital providing a full range of inpatient and outpatient services, Aurora West Allis Medical Center’s specialty services include cardiology, digestive diseases, cancer, orthopedics, women’s health and obstetrics. Aurora West Allis provides a vast array of outpatient oncology services, including the treatment of gynecologic malignancies.
Aurora Advanced Healthcare Clinics
  • Aurora Advanced Healthcare is a network of clinics throughout the greater Milwaukee area. A large multidisciplinary team of experienced cancer specialists provides complete oncology care in a community setting.

Specific Learning Experiences

Learning experiences will encompass hematologic malignancies, solid tumors, stem cell transplant and supportive care, and will be customized to the interests of the individual resident. Learning experiences include:

  • Department orientation
  • Hematologic malignancies: leukemia, lymphoma, etc.
  • Basic principles of oncology
  • Autologous stem cell transplant
  • Immunotherapy
  • Inpatient medical oncology
  • Outpatient medical oncology
  • Women’s health
  • Pain management
  • Nutrition support
  • Infectious disease
  • Palliative care/hospice
  • Investigational studies

Professional development will be a component of the residency program. Examples include a year-long residency project, rotation projects, in-services, staffing, visits to other institutions, involvement in professional organizations, teaching and precepting, and ACPE continuing education presentations.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy
  • Eligible for pharmacist licensure in Wisconsin
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
  • Graduate of a PGY1 pharmacy practice residency
  • The Pharmacy Residency Programs at Aurora Health Care participate in the Residency Matching Program ("The Match"). Employment with Aurora Health Care as a pharmacy resident is contingent upon the applicant satisfying Aurora Health Care's employment eligibility requirements

Quality Benefits

Each resident is eligible for full-time employee benefits. This includes medical/dental insurance, 23 days paid time off and travel support.

Stipend

We update competitive salaries annually. The current stipend is $72,800.

Application Information

Each candidate must submit the following application materials: letter of interest, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation, and pharmacy school transcripts. Letters of recommendation should be sent by the reference directly to the program rather than by the applicant. Pharmacy school transcripts should be sent by the school directly to the program rather than by the applicant. No separate application form is required. All application materials must be received by January 10. Letter of interest must specify which program you are applying for (PGY1 Pharmacy Practice - Milwaukee, PGY1 Pharmacy Practice - Aurora West Allis Medical Center, PGY1 Pharmacy Practice - Green Bay, PGY1 Community Pharmacy Residency, PGY1 and PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration, PGY2 Health System Pharmacy Administration, PGY2 Oncology, or PGY2 Critical Care). Letter of interest must also specify your career goal, why you are interested in a residency, what you are looking for in a residency, and why you are applying for a residency specifically at Aurora Health Care.
