Schedule of classes

Start date

A new class begins annually on the Tuesday following the Labor Day holiday.

Academic schedule

We schedule all didactic classes during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. The first 3 weeks of the program incorporates classroom and lab activities to prepare the student for clinical rotations. Following orientation, the student spends eight to twenty hours per week in a classroom/laboratory environment. Class attendance is mandatory.

Clinical rotations

After orientation, students are assigned to particular areas in the department to begin clinical development. Students spend forty hours a week in combined classroom and clinical activity. As students progress in clinical knowledge, some Saturday, second and third shift hours are scheduled to broaden the clinical experience.

Student schedules

The program director or the clinical coordinator schedules clinical hours, rotations in the clinical areas, class hours and off days. Students receive a clinical rotation schedule prior to the start of the upcoming semester.

School closings

The School is closed and no classes are scheduled on the following days:

  • Thanksgiving and the following day
  • A minimum of 1 week in winter to include Christmas and New Year holidays
  • 1 week following Easter
  • Memorial Day
  • 1 week in June/July, to include July 4th
  • 2 weeks in August/September prior to Labor Day
  • The last Friday of each semester

Time off request

Students receive a bank of 120 hours of time off for the two-year period to be scheduled as needed with the approval of faculty or when sick. Any student who is absent for more than 240 hours of scheduled didactic and/or clinical hours will be required to withdraw.
