Pre-placement screening Applicants selected for admission are required to undergo pre-placement drug screening and physical assessment as well as a criminal background check. It is our policy in all student actions, including the selection process, to evaluate all applicants and enrolled students on the basis of qualifications and ability, without regard to age, race, color, creed, religion, disability, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry or membership in any legally protected category. PrerequisitesCarroll University students enrolled in the Health Sciences Program who have completed 74 prerequisite credits are eligible to pursue professional training in diagnostic medical sonography at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. CU candidates must be able to document completion of mandatory coursework with a minimum 3.0 GPA prior to acceptance into the program. The student is responsible for forwarding an updated transcript or final course report for any mandatory coursework that is incomplete at the time the original application is submitted. Carroll University candidates are required to comply with both Carroll University and Aurora St. Luke's School admission criteria. Shadow experiencesGeneral information Job shadowing is a prerequisite for application to the sonography program. Applicants must have a minimum of 8 hours of job-shadowing experience. This is beneficial in order to acquaint candidates with the demands of the profession. Program faculty are available to conduct and/or coordinate individual shadow experiences for program applicants and other qualified candidates at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Interested candidates should contact the sonography department at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center at (414) 649-6131 to schedule the shadow experience. Day of the shadow experience Candidates must bring a valid photo ID to the scheduled appointment. Candidates will be interacting with our patients during the shadow experience. Therefore it is important for the candidate to appear clean and neat as well as dress professionally. The following attire is recommended:

Application feeCandidates applying through Carroll University Department Health Sciences are NOT required to submit the $25 application fee. Application materialsApplication materials are available from the Health Sciences and 2+2 Program Advisor at Carroll University. The CU Program Advisor collects all student application materials and forwards them to the Sonography Program. Any application submitted by the student will be rejected. Enrollment processApplication materials will be made available October through November on an annual basis. The CU Program Advisor informs students of yearly deadlines. Please notify the advisor as early as possible of your intent to apply. No exceptions will be made for students who miss the application deadline. Applicants are required to complete a program application form and the drug screen consent form. Applicants must provide a brief autobiography, 1-2 typed pages, covering the past four years of the applicant's life. The narrative must also state why he/she has an interest in the field of sonography and Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center School of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Applications must have 3 signed letters of professional reference along with the applicant recommendation form. (Original letter signed & dated within 6 months of the application date). Applications with less than three letters of reference will not be considered. Applicants must submit documentation showing recent job shadowing experience for a minimum of eight (8) hours at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center. Documentation of patient care experience is required for all CU applicants. The applicant will possess a minimum of 500 hours of current direct patient care experience in either a hospital or nursing home setting. The following documentation must be submitted with the application. Failure to submit the required documentation will result in an incomplete application.
Applicant/candidate assessmentAll application elements are reviewed and scored. Applicants meeting the required minimum point value are invited for a personal interview with the Admissions Committee. Please note, not all applicants will receive an interview. The decision of the committee is based upon information provided in the application. Factors considered are:
Scheduling of interviewsInterview information is forwarded to qualified candidates via the Carroll University email account. Personal interviews will be scheduled prior to the deadline for fall class enrollment. Please note, class size is limited and not all applicants are selected for admission to the program. Withdrawing your applicationIf at anytime you decide not to pursue a position in our program please notify the Sonography Program Supervisor at Aurora St. Luke’s via email at laura.sorenson@aurora.org so we may deactivate your file. AcceptanceThe school does not maintain a waiting list; rather an Admissions Committee selects the most qualified applicants on an annual basis. Annually, a minimum of three available positions are reserved for qualified CU candidates. The Admissions Committee will notify all applicants and Carroll University of their final decision in writing. Candidates offered a position are required to submit a written letter of acceptance and a $150.00 non-refundable acceptance fee that will be applied to the program’s clinical tracking program. Program feesAll enrolled students are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks prior to the start of classes. Students are also responsible for paying fees that are not part of tuition during their second year. Second year fees are approximately $100.00.
