The following policies and practices apply to all students in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
Aurora Health Care, Inc. and its affiliates recognize the need to protect the privacy of individually identifiable health information (protected health information or PHI). All Aurora organizations and affiliates and Aurora employees, volunteers, contractors, students and temporary help shall adhere to privacy-related requirements as defined by Aurora policies and as required by state and federal law.
Disregarding medical center and/or the school's policies and rules of conduct may result in disciplinary action ranging from probation to termination, depending on the severity of the infraction. The student has a right to file a grievance in regard to any disciplinary action in accordance with the school's Grievance Policy.
To ensure high quality patient care and service levels within all of our facilities, Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center supports a drug-free workplace through pre-employment drug testing. As part of the selection process, Aurora Health Care will drug test all applicants selected for the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.
Satisfactory results must be obtained from the initial test or the offer will be withdrawn. Any student under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs, or who uses these substances while at school, will be terminated.

Guidance and counseling
The faculty assists students with any academic and clinical concerns. The school does not offer tutoring services. The faculty will direct the student to the Employee Health Department for counseling or referral in cases of personal problems that may interfere with the program.
Health and safety
In the event of an injury while at school, students must notify a faculty member immediately and complete an incident report. Employee Health and Wellness evaluates injuries sustained at the medical center or its affiliates and makes recommendations for appropriate follow-up. The student incurs the cost of any related treatment.
Students are responsible for their own medical/dental care during the program. Students are encouraged to carry their own health insurance.
Each student is responsible for obtaining living quarters. A limited number of apartments may be available through the housing office of Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center.
Parking is available at the school, medical center and all clinical affiliates.
All new students are required to complete a post-offer physical assessment before the start of the program. Aurora provides physical assessments at no cost.
Declared pregnant students will be advised of department policies regarding the safety of the fetus. Clinical rotations will not be altered due to pregnancy. The student is encouraged to meet with the program director to discuss attendance issues surrounding a maternity leave. Following the leave of absence the student is responsible for making up lost credit, if applicable.
Students may apply for employment within Aurora Health Care while participating in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program. This employment is not considered a portion of the education program. Students will not perform school-related activities while working in the capacity of an employee of Aurora Health Care.
