Medical Education at St. Luke's

Aurora Health Care recognizes the benefits of medical education to its physicians and patients, and has been a strong partner in the development of our programs. Accredited Aurora residency programs at Aurora St. Luke's include:

  • Transitional Year -- 17 positions
  • Family Medicine -- 30 positions
  • Diagnostic Radiology  -- 16 positions

Aurora St. Luke's is affiliated with both the Milwaukee-based Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW), and the University of Wisconsin, as part of its "Milwaukee Clinical Campus" (UW-MCC). Both of these medical schools have benefited from our large, diverse patient base and excellent teaching by establishing the following positions on campus:

  • Junior student ambulatory care and ward medicine clerkships
  • Senior student ward medicine and elective rotations
  • MCW Pulmonary and Endocrinology fellowship positions
  • MCW Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship position
  • MCW Otolaryngology resident position
  • Aurora/UW Affiliate Internal Medicine resident positions
  • Aurora/UW Affiliate Cardiology, Electrophysiology, and Advanced and Interventional Cardiology fellowship positions
  • Aurora/UW Affiliate Gastroenterology fellowship positions

In addition, we provide training to and interact with trainees in other allied health care fields. The medical center sponsors a Pharmacy Residency Training Program and is a training site which includes Marquette and UW Madison physician assistant students. Working in this multi-disciplinary team structure we all become both teachers and learners.

As a large community hospital with multiple graduate medical education programs, we have unique strengths. Unlike university settings, we are administratively and academically centralized, facilitating greater communication and collaboration among different programs and specialties. Unlike many community hospitals, we provide a large number of GME programs and resident positions, creating a strong clinically-based academic environment.
