Great Lakes Radiologists To Join Aurora Medical Group

Monday, December 15, 2008

Milwaukee, Wis. -- Aurora Health Care announced today that the physicians of Great Lakes Radiologists, one of the largest radiology practices in southeastern Wisconsin, have chosen to join Aurora Medical Group.

The 33 Great Lakes radiologists practice chiefly at Aurora hospitals and clinics. “These are outstanding physicians who every day contribute to the quality of the care we provide for Aurora patients,” said Jeff Bailet, M.D., president of Aurora Medical Group. “We are pleased that they have decided to join our group practice.”

John Cline, M.D., president of Great Lakes Radiologists, said that the radiologists are committed to continuous quality improvement and were attracted to Aurora in part by Aurora’s approach to quality.

“Aurora Health Care has emerged as a national leader in clinical quality improvement,” Dr. Cline said. “We know that the organization will provide the support we need as we pursue quality initiatives.”

This past summer, the federal government’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the results of the third and final year of a groundbreaking pay-for-performance quality demonstration project, showing Aurora Health Care to be the top-performing health system in the nation. Aurora’s hospitals were top performers in 40 of the 47 quality areas measured, the most of any system.

Most of the 33 Great Lakes radiologists are fellowship trained. Some of the radiologists have subspecialties in interventional radiology, musculoskeletal radiology, breast imaging, neuroradiology and cross-sectional imaging. The radiologists practice at Aurora hospitals and clinics in Milwaukee, Cudahy, West Allis, Kenosha, Racine, Elkhorn, Burlington, Hartford and West Bend.

As part of Aurora Medical Group, the Great Lakes radiologists will work in partnership with the physicians of Radiology Associates of Milwaukee, who joined Aurora earlier this year.

Aurora provides radiology services not only through employed radiologists but also through contractual relationships with radiology group practices. Those contractual relationships will continue.

Aurora Medical Group encompasses more than 800 primary care and specialty physicians. Aurora Medical Group is part of Aurora Health Care, a not-for-profit health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of care. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
