Aurora to open Town of Summit clinic months ahead of schedule

Wednesday, June 10, 2009

New Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic will open on the
same day this fall

Aurora Medical Center in SummitTown of Summit, Wis. -- Aurora Health Care announced today that construction of the new Aurora Medical Center in the Town of Summit has gone so well that it will be able to open the clinic part of the campus this fall, months ahead of schedule. Opening at the same time will be the new Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic on the Summit campus.

The hospital part of the project remains on schedule to open in early 2010. Click here to learn more about the new Medical Center in Summit.

The new Summit home for Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic will open October 26, 2009. It will replace the current Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic at 915 Summit Avenue in Oconomowoc, although urgent care services will continue to be offered there. The new clinic also will replace the Aurora Wilkinson Women's Center and the Aurora Vision Center, both currently in Oconomowoc. The Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic will also move from its Oconomowoc location to the Summit campus. Additionally, the current Aurora Pharmacy at 915 Summit Avenue will remain open, and a new Aurora Pharmacy will be open at the Summit facility.

"October 26 will represent the start of a new era in health care in this area," said David Ulery, M.D., president of Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic. "The opening of our new clinic and cancer center will move us closer to a fully integrated system of care for the people of western Waukesha County."

The new Aurora Medical Center campus in the Town of Summit is at the southeast corner of Interstate 94 and Highway 67. The new Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic will be on the west side of the campus, and the new Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic is on the south side. Patients will enter the campus from Highway 67 or from Delafield Road.

Both the new clinic and cancer center will have abundant adjacent parking and covered patient drop-off areas.

"This new clinic location will help us provide our patients with the diagnostic and treatment technologies they deserve and expect in a welcoming and healing environment," said Ulery.

Dr. Ulery also praised the hard work and dedication of the architects, engineers and hundreds of skilled trades workers for their efforts to achieve an early opening of the new Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic. "The news that we will be able to open the clinic well ahead of schedule is exciting for our patients and for our caregivers," he said.

Len Susa, Town of Summit chair, also welcomed the news.

"This medical campus will be a magnificent cornerstone for our growing community," he said. Susa congratulated the physicians and staff of Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic, saying, "The Wilkinson Clinic has been synonymous with high quality, compassionate health care in western Waukesha County for more than 100 years."

The other Aurora Wilkinson Medical Clinic locations - in Hartland, Dousman, Delafield, Wales and Waukesha - will continue to serve patients in these communities.

Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
