Sturgeon Bay clinic's mammography dept. receives ACR accreditationWednesday, February 15, 2006Feb. 15, 2006 - The Aurora Health Center in Sturgeon Bay has been awarded a 3-year accreditation in mammography as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR). This renews the accreditation previously received by the clinic. Located at the intersection of Highway 57 and Alabama Street, the Aurora Health Center offers mammography 2 days per week and also during extended hours on evenings and weekends. Appointments can be made by calling 920-746-7200. Mammograms performed at the Aurora Health Center are read by a radiologist using computer-assisted mammography screening, which digitizes all mammograms with a laser scanner. Computer-assisted diagnosis, also known as CAD, can increase a radiologist's ability to detect more subtle abnormalities. The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their finding to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report. Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin. ### Contact: Mike Spofford (920-445-2165) |
