Thursday, March 02, 2006

STURGEON BAY, Wis., March 2, 2006 – Aurora Health Care has opened a new outpatient rehabilitation facility on the south end of Sturgeon Bay along Highway 42/57.

The Aurora Rehabilitation Center, located at 1449 Green Bay Road, provides a full spectrum of outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation services. The center is designed for patients recovering from minor sprains and strains, fractures, joint replacements and sports injuries, among many other conditions.
Physical therapist Charity Geary is the center’s primary provider. Geary comes to Aurora with more than 20 years of experience in physical therapy, including both hospital-based rehabilitation and outpatient orthopedics.

Geary received her degree in physical therapy from the Chicago Medical School and is certified in the McKenzie technique, a mechanical diagnosis and therapy for spine disorders. She also has completed Isernhagen training in functional capacity evaluations for getting workers back on the job.

Physical therapy assistant Alycia Schultz, a certified massage therapist, is also on staff. Schultz has experience with both inpatient and outpatient therapy, including work with stroke patients and post-surgical orthopedics.

The center is furnished with a wide variety of exercise equipment in addition to the traditional stationary bikes and stair-steppers. Some of the more modern equipment includes a NuStep machine for cardiovascular and major muscle workouts, an elliptical treadmill, an upper body ergometer, a hand-and-foot whirlpool, and a fluidotherapy machine, which is similar to a whirlpool but uses dry heat.

Ultrasound and electric nerve stimulation are available as well. Staff members also provide patient education for home-based rehabilitation and exercise programs.

The center is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. There is convenient off-street parking right near the front door.
