Inpatient Rehabilitation Program receives high marks

ELKHORN, Wis., Aurora Lakeland Medical Center recently received a 3-year accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities for its Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs-Hospital.

The accreditation represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization. Commission accredited programs and services have demonstrated that they substantially meet internationally recognized standards. The accreditation means that consumers can be confident that an organization has made a commitment to continually enhance the quality of its services and programs, and its focus is on consumer satisfaction.

Kusuma Rao, MD, medical director, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Program, said the accreditation is a rigorous peer review process that involves an on-site visit from a team of surveyors.

“The accreditation demonstrates our high level commitment to the program and it shows that our services are of the highest quality,’’ said Dr. Rao. “We continually strive to provide the best inpatient rehabilitation care possible and this accreditation is another step toward that goal.’’

Founded in 1966, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities is a private, not-for-profit organization that promotes quality rehabilitation services.

It does this by establishing standards of quality for organizations to use as guidelines in developing and offering their programs or services to consumers. The commission’s standards are developed with input from consumers, rehabilitation professionals, state and national organizations, and funders. Every year the standards are reviewed and new ones are developed to keep pace with changing conditions and current consumer needs.
