Aurora Health Care announces changes in senior leadershipWednesday, October 04, 2006
Nick Turkal, M.D., the new president and chief executive officer of Aurora Health Care, today announced changes in the health care system's senior leadership team.
Donald J. Nestor has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer of the organization. He will be responsible for the management of all of Aurora's operations with the exception of those located in the Milwaukee area. He also will oversee Aurora Medical Group, finance, business development, insurance contracting and facility development for Aurora.
Sue Ela, R.N., has been named president of Aurora's Metro Region. She will be responsible for the management of Aurora's operations in the Milwaukee area, including Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, St. Luke's South Shore, Aurora Sinai Medical Center and West Allis Memorial Hospital. Ela also will have the title senior clinical vice president of Aurora. In that role she will lead all of the organization's clinical efforts, including Aurora's extensive work in care management and quality improvement.
"We are fortunate to have Don Nestor and Sue Ela as part of our outstanding senior leadership team," Dr. Turkal said. "These new assignments for Don and Sue will strengthen our team as we continue to pursue better ways to serve our patients and our communities."
Dr. Turkal was named president and CEO of Aurora on Sept. 19. He began his new duties on Monday, succeeding Aurora founder G. Edwin Howe. Howe plans to retire at the end of the year.
Ela joined Aurora in 1995 as president of the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association, a position she will continue to hold. As a senior vice president, she has had responsibilities for the system's South and Kettle Moraine Regions, nursing and clinical program development, philanthropy and Aurora Family Service. Ela is nationally recognized for her leadership of clinical quality improvement initiatives.
Nestor joined Aurora Health Care in 1989 as senior vice president of business and finance. He was promoted to executive vice president in 2000. Nestor has been a primary architect of Aurora's growth throughout eastern Wisconsin and has championed a patient-centered approach to the delivery of health care services.
Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
