Program designed for people interested in chaplain ministry

The need for spiritual caregivers continues to grow in health care settings across the U.S. Patients and their families are finding themselves looking for spiritual guidance in times of crisis.

Recognizing that need, Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha and Memorial Hospital of Burlington offer a Clinical Pastoral Education program that's designed to help those interested in improving pastoral skills, learning new skills in helping the sick and dying, or discovering their calling to chaplaincy ministry. The program works in conjunction with the hospital's pastoral care services department.

Applications are being sought for the winter/spring unit that begins the first week of Feb. 2007 and runs through the end of July. The classroom group will meet weekly on Tuesdays at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. Clinical work, pastoral care ministry, will be done at Aurora Medical Center.

Rev. Sue Ott-Holland, supervisor of clinical pastoral education, Aurora Health Care, said, "Clinical Pastoral Education is an experience based learning program for people in or moving into professional parish or chaplaincy ministry,'' she said.

Clinical Pastoral Education is an accredited program of the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education, Decatur, Georgia. It involves a minimum of 400 hours of classroom and clinical ministry over the course of the unit. More information about Clinical Pastoral Education is on our web site, or www.acpe.edu, or you can call or email Rev. Sue Ott-Holland (262-741-2046 or sue.ott-holland@aurora.org).
