Aurora Visiting Nurse Association of Wisconsin sponsors teleconference on griefMonday, March 19, 2007
The Hospice Foundation of America holds its 14th annual National Bereavement Teleconference, Living With Grief®: Before and After the Death this week.
The teleconference, sponsored by the Aurora Visiting Nurse Association of Wisconsin and the Daniels Family Funeral Homes, will be held from 12:30 p.m. - 3 p.m., Thurs., March 22, at Gateway Technical College in Burlington, 496 McCanna Pkwy. A half hour discussion panel follows the teleconference.
To register for the free teleconference, please call Mary Stenzel, volunteer coordinator, Aurora VNA, at 800-644-5860. Continuing education units are available for a fee.
The teleconference will explore the most current theoretical perspectives on loss and grief as experienced by persons throughout a life-limiting illness and by survivors after the death. A particular focus will be paid to areas where understanding of grief have been challenged.
At the conclusion of this teleconference, participants will be able to describe anticipatory grief and anticipatory mourning and approaches that professional caregivers can use to assist patients and families struggling with loss in life-threatening illness; develop strategies and interventional approaches that professional caregivers can use at the moment of death and in funeral rituals to help survivors cope with loss; and discuss ways that our understandings of grief have changed over the last 20 years.
