Dr. Robert Kessler to join Aurora Health CareFriday, August 16, 2002MILWAUKEE, Aurora Health Care announced today that it will be expanding its range of services to employers with the addition of Robert A. Kessler, D.O., to its clinical leadership team.
Dr. Kessler joins Aurora Aug. 19 as medical director of on-site clinics. He will work directly with employers throughout eastern Wisconsin to establish workplace clinics as a way to improve patient outcomes and control health care costs.
Dr. Kessler is the founder of Quad/Med, the on-site medical services arm of Pewaukee-based printing company Quad/Graphics, where he served as corporate medical director. Dr. Kessler and his colleagues have guided the growth of Quad/Med into a four-clinic group practice employing 40 physicians, along with nurses and other professionals. Quad/Med has helped achieve significant savings for Quad/Graphics, whose employee health care costs are about 20% below Midwest averages.
"My role as part of Aurora will allow me to share with many Wisconsin employers what we have learned about on-site clinics," Dr. Kessler said. "Clinics within the workplace can be an important tool as businesses wrestle with rapidly rising health care costs."
By focusing on prevention and wellness, a workplace clinic can help keep employees healthy. And when an employee does become ill, a convenient on-site clinic can mean quick diagnosis and early treatment.
"By combining on-site clinics with Aurora's extensive work in clinical quality improvement, we will be able to make a significant impact for employers," Dr. Kessler said. "For example, Aurora's expertise in managing the care of people with chronic illnesses like diabetes and asthma will greatly enhance the value of workplace clinics."
Dr. Kessler is certified by the American Board of Family Physicians and by the American Association of Medical Review Officers.
"Bob Kessler is an important addition to our team," said Eliot Huxley, M.D., president of Aurora Medical Group. "Employers today are looking for new ways to control their spending on health care, and Dr. Kessler's extensive knowledge of on-site clinics will help us find solutions."
Aurora Health Care is a community-owned Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora has care sites in 75 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
