Aurora Lakeland Medical Center's Benefit Ball event slated April 19Monday, March 17, 2008
Special video message given by President George W. Bush
The Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Benefit Committee hosts the 23rd annual Benefit Ball on April 19, 2008, at Geneva National Resort on scenic Lake Como. Dinner, music, silent auctions, and dancing will be part of this elegant black-tie event. Proceeds will go toward the purchase of updated computer software for the imaging department at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. Festivities begin at 6 p.m.
The Honorary Chairperson for this year's Benefit Ball is Britt Kolar, MD, former family practice physician in Lake Geneva who currently serves as medical director, care management, Aurora Health Care. Upon transitioning to his medical director role last year, Dr. Kolar reflected on his 27-year career as a family medicine physician describing it as a calling and couldn't think of a better place to practice than Lake Geneva. During a ceremony marking the end of his practice, one of his patients, Gail Melick, remarked that Dr. Kolar made many friends during his years of practice, adding, "The cleaning people, the President, and myself are all honored to call Dr. Kolar our friend.''
In a fitting tribute, a special video message by President George W. Bush, a former classmate of Dr. Kolar's, will be presented during the evening.
"This recognition reflects Dr. Kolar's commitment to his patients, the community, and his profession,'' said Cathy Slovick, the chair of this year's event. "The impact he's had among families and people over the years is tremendous. We are truly blessed to have medical professionals like Dr. Kolar in our community who we can honestly call our friend.''
The Benefit Ball has played a significant role in a number of projects at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, including the remodeling of the emergency department, creation of the women's center at the hospital, and the addition of valuable clinical equipment in many hospital departments.
As part of the evening, the Margaret Schloemer Humanitarian Award will also be presented.
"Over the past 22 years, the Benefit Ball and its volunteers have displayed incredible dedication to helping sustain our mission in Walworth County,'' said Laverne Schmidt, director, philanthropy, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. "Thanks to everyone who has helped us improve the overall health of Walworth County residents. Your time and efforts have made a huge difference in the community.''
