Echocardiography Lab at Aurora Health Center in Two Rivers Receives AccreditationTuesday, June 03, 2008
The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL) has granted accreditation of the echocardiography laboratory at Aurora Health Center in Two Rivers.
“This high honor is the stamp of approval showing that Aurora is providing high quality echocardiography care to its patients,” says Timothy Maatman, M.D., medical director of the echocardiography lab at Aurora Health Center in Two Rivers.
The laboratory is one of the first one thousand echocardiography laboratories in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico to be recognized in this manner for its commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.
The ICAEL accreditation program evaluates the abilities, experience and training of both the sonographer and physician interpreting the results of an echocardiography, a noninvasive, complex imaging technique.
Cardiac structure and blood flow information provided by echocardiographic testing is useful in the detection and management of many types of heart disease. An estimated 10 million echocardiograms are performed annually in the United States.
The ICAEL was established with the support of the American Society of Echocardiography, the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography to provide a peer review mechanism to encourage and recognize the provision of quality echocardiographic diagnostic evaluations by a process of voluntary accreditation.
Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
