MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Aurora Health Care announced today that Milwaukee attorney and community leader John Daniels Jr. and Minneapolis nursing educator Joanne Disch, Ph.D., R.N., FAAN, have been added to the not-for-profit organization’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Disch is a national leader in health care with extensive experience as an educator, chief nurse executive, researcher and policy maker. She is widely recognized for her expertise in the field of nursing and for her leadership on issues related to aging. Dr. Disch recently completed two years as the national board chair of AARP and is a member of the boards for the Allina Health System and the National Center for Healthcare Leadership.
“Aurora is recognized around the country as a leading health care provider and has developed a reputation for finding new ways to help nurses deliver care in a fast-changing environment,” Dr. Disch said. “I look forward to working with the organization to meet the challenges ahead, particularly with regard to addressing the needs of the rapidly expanding older adult population.”
John Daniels is chairman of Quarles & Brady, a national law firm based in Milwaukee. He has extensive experience serving national, regional, local and governmental owners and investors in real estate. Daniels’ clients include several major national corporations. He is a widely respected business and community leader who has received national recognition for his contributions to the community. Daniels has been honored by the National Bar Association and recently was named by the National Law Journal as one of the most influential minority lawyers in America.
“I have long admired Aurora’s commitment to meeting the needs of the communities it serves, especially those neighborhoods that are continually challenged with a lack of resources,” Daniels said. “At a time when many families are facing greater economic challenges, I welcome an opportunity to help Aurora continue its leadership in delivering high-quality, cost-effective care for the people of eastern Wisconsin.”
The appointments of Daniels and Disch were announced Tuesday at Aurora’s annual board meeting.
”We are fortunate to have people of the caliber of John Daniels and Joanne Disch joining our board,” said Nick Turkal, M.D., Aurora’s president and chief executive officer. “Their experiences in addressing the needs of urban communities and older adults at the local and national levels will be of enormous benefit as we look for creative solutions to the challenges of delivering health care in the years ahead.”
Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a national leader in efforts to improve the quality of care. Aurora offers care at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
