Two Rivers, Wis. - November is American Diabetes Month and about 24 million people in the United States have diabetes, yet nearly 25 percent of people who have it, don't know it.

Having diabetes places a person at increased risk for a number of serious, even life-threatening complications, including heart disease. Adults with diabetes have heart disease death rates about two to four times higher than adults without diabetes.

Aurora Medical Center, 5000 Memorial Drive, is hosting a seminar called "Diabetes and Your Heart" from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7.

At 2 p.m., Jillian Johnson, M.A., E.P.C., an exercise physiologist in cardiac rehabilitation at Aurora Medical Center, will discuss "Exercise at Any Age." Topics will include the importance of proper exercise for heart health and diabetes management.

At 3:30 p.m., keynote speaker Tara Dall, M.D., of Advanced Lipidology, S.C., will discuss "Diabetes and Heart Disease-Answers to the Tough Questions." She will educate attendees on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of heart disease and diabetes.

Dall is one of the only lipid specialists in the state of Wisconsin. She is a lipid researcher and has authored articles in a National Lipid Association publication.

Attendees at the presentation will enjoy vendor displays, chair massages and door prizes.
