Celebrating Motown Event to Raise Funds For Aurora Sinais Newborn Intensive Care UnitMonday, November 10, 2008
MILWAUKEE, WI -- Twelve-year-old actress Jamia Simone Nash will headline a musical evening Nov. 22 to raise money for fragile newborns at Aurora Women's Pavilion of Aurora West Allis Medical Center and Aurora Sinai Medical Center.
With a remarkable, bold voice, Jamia has sung alongside legends such as Celine Dion, Diana Ross and Bocelli. She plays "Ana" on CBS' "Young and the Restless," and held a supporting role in the film "August Rush," which received an Academy nomination for the song "Raise It Up." Additionally, Ms. Nash became the youngest African American to ever perform live at the Academy Awards, when she sang the song at the 2008 awards show.
This dynamic young singer will join The Tempters at the Celebrate Motown event. Celebrate Motown aims to raise $400,000 for Project Nikki, a campaign to buy eight Giraffe Omni beds for micro-premature infants at Aurora's newborn intensive care units. The beds, which cost $50,000 each, eliminate the need to move babies from bed to bed and reduce risks of complications.
Among those attending Celebrating Motown will be Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.
The fund-raiser will take place from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Bayshore Town Center's North Shore Building. For more information call 414-219-7376.
