AARP Magazine lists Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center among the 126 Best Hospitals in the United States

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Data provided by nonprofit organization, Consumers' Checkbook

Milwaukee, Wis. - AARP The Magazine, the world's largest-circulation magazine with more than 34 million readers, today debuted a new interactive map listing the top-ranked hospitals in the U.S. by geographic area. Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center was one of two Wisconsin hospitals to achieve this recognition.

This list (available at http://www.aarpmagazine.org/health) was compiled by Consumers' Checkbook, a nonprofit organization, and coincides with the release of the May/June issue of AARP The Magazine, which features new information and advice for consumers deciding whether or not to travel away from home for medical care.

Mary O'Brien, chief administrative officer for Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center says, "We are extremely happy to be recognized by AARP Magazine and Consumers' Checkbook. Providing quality health care is our number one goal and to be included among the best in the nation is a wonderful validation of our work. I am extremely proud of our caregivers for achieving such wonderful and deserved recognition."

The criteria used to build this listing are based on a variety of patient safety numbers, physician recommendations and statistics on whether proper tests and procedures were followed for cases. In total, these numbers were used to identify the best 126 hospitals in the United States.

Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a national leader in efforts to improve the quality of care. Aurora provides care at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin and Illinois.
