Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Presents Free Program on Colorectal Cancer ScreeningWednesday, May 06, 2009Elkhorn, Wis. -- Colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death in the United States. According to the latest figures from the American Cancer Society almost 149,000 were diagnosed in 2008 and of that number, almost 50,000 died of the disease. The good news is that through early detection and prevention, the American Cancer Society reports that significant progress has been made in recent years in reducing cancer incidence and death rates in most U.S. population groups. Make plans today to join Philip Chung, M.D., board certified gastroenterologist, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, during a free program on Tuesday, May 19, scheduled from 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, W3985 County Road NN, Elkhorn. Register by calling 1-800-499-5736 or go to www.Aurora.org/ColorectalScreening. During its early stages, colorectal cancer is difficult to detect because there are often no symptoms. This cancer is most curable when found before symptoms appear, which emphasizes the importance of screening tests.
