575 people, $6,500 funds raised at inaugural Aurora Run/Walk for Cancer in Green BayMonday, June 15, 2009
Green Bay, Wis. - About 575 running and walking enthusiasts participated in the first Aurora Run/Walk for Cancer Sunday, June 7 despite the unusually cold June weather.
Participants chose between 5K and 10K courses, starting and finishing at Ashwaubomay Park in Ashwaubenon.
The run/walk coincided with National Cancer Survivor's Day.
"The Aurora Run/Walk for Cancer provides cancer survivors and their support teams the opportunity to celebrate survivorship and reflect on what they've accomplished," said Dhimant Patel, M.D., medical oncologist at the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora BayCare Medical Center. "While many appreciate being alive each and every day, this is a once a year opportunity to truly celebrate beating and living with cancer."
More than $6,500 in proceeds were raised through registration fees and will be donated to Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, approaching the fight against cancer on all fronts - with education, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and support. To learn more about Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic, click here.
