Aurora BayCare and Aurora Medical Center Receive Environmental Award for Recycling

Friday, July 31, 2009

Green Bay, Wis. - Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay and Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers recently received the Environmental Award from Cintas Document Management for paper recycling. The award is given annually to select Cintas customers based on the volume of shredded paper recycled and its positive impact on the environment.

Cintas is a supplier of document-shredding services and business products.

"We are honored to earn this recognition from Cintas," said Karie King, manager of environmental services for Aurora BayCare Medical Center. "This award is another example of why Aurora BayCare is an environmental stewardship leader in health care."

"Environmental stewardship, responsibly managing our resources and cost management all come together in this recycling initiative," said Cindy Jones, manager of environmental services at Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers. "It's a winning proposition for us, our patients, the communities we serve and the environment."

The estimated savings in consumable resources by recycling the approximately 69 tons of shredded documents at the two hospitals during 2008 were:

  • 1,171 trees;
  • 26,167 gallons of oil;
  • 482,020 gallons of water; and
  • 207 cubic yards of landfill space (required if the paper wasn't recycled).

Aurora BayCare Medical Center is a 167-bed, full-service tertiary care hospital located at 2845 Greenbrier Road on Green Bay's east side. It opened in September 2001 as a joint effort of Aurora Health Care and BayCare Clinic.

Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
