Chief of Staff appointed for new Aurora Medical Center in SummitMonday, March 01, 2010
Town of Summit, Wis. -- Aurora Health Care is pleased to announce the appointment of Thomas M. Derrig, M.D., MMM, FACS, CPE as the inaugural chief of staff for the new Aurora Medical Clinic in Summit, opening Monday, March 1.
“It is certainly an honor to serve as the first chief of staff for the new Aurora Medical Center in Summit. I am excited to be involved with this regional medical center as it opens to the public and grows into a vital health care resource for residents throughout Waukesha and Jefferson counties,” said Dr. Derrig. “Success for us and for our patients and their families will require a passion and commitment to advocate for our patients’ needs each and every day.”
In his new role as chief of staff, Dr. Derrig, a general and vascular surgeon, will direct the new Aurora hospital’s credentialing and per review processes and oversee the medical staff executive committee. This committee helps ensure the hospital’s quality of care and serves as a liaison with the hospital’s community board and the medical staff.
“Dr. Derrig is a passionate advocate and champion for our patients,” said Fran Finley, chief administrative officer, Aurora Medical Center in Summit. ”His leadership and clinical expertise make him an ideal partner to help lead this new hospital.”
Dr. Derrig has impressive medical and research backgrounds. Originally from Fargo, North Dakota, Dr. Derrig graduated Magna Cum Laude earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Science from University of North Dakota and a Master of Medical Management from Tulane University. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of North Dakota where he also served his residency. Dr. Derrig moved to southeastern Wisconsin in 2001 and began his practice with Aurora at the Aurora Health Care Ambulatory Surgery Center in Waukesha.
Dr. Derrig also has a successful and decorated military background in which he was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal in 1997, Air Force Commendation Medals in 1995, 1996 and 2000 as well as the Air Force Humanitarian Aid Medal in 1998.
Dr. Derrig’s interests are spending time with his family, flying helicopters and cooking.
