Monday, October 11, 2010

Volunteers from community are asked to join together to help others

Oshkosh, Wis. – A national day of helping others will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 23rd from 9 a.m. to noon at Aurora Medical Center – Oshkosh, 855 N. Westhaven Drive, in Conference Room A&B.

Aurora’s seventh annual Make A Difference Day will provide numerous opportunities for volunteers to take part in beneficial and service-oriented projects. Activities include, making fleece blankets and scarves, holiday crafts and rubber stamped cards. Items will be donated to nursing home residents, hospital patients and soldiers.

The general public – including young and old, individuals and groups – is invited and encouraged to volunteer and join in the fun. A variety of activities are planned, which means there will be something for everyone, affording the opportunity to make a difference and be involved in a great cause. Refreshments will be provided.

Donations of yarn are being accepted for use in making hats, blankets and prayers shawls by “Knitters Nook” volunteers.

“The power to make a difference lies in everyone,” said John Nieman, Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh’s Make A Difference Day coordinator. “By joining together for a common goal, we can brighten someone’s day and strengthen our community.”

Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh and Helping Hands, a local cable show found on OCAT 2, which showcases local volunteer efforts, are co-sponsors of the event.
