Milwaukee Urban League recognizes Aurora Health Care for diversityFriday, November 12, 2010Milwaukee, Wi. – The Milwaukee Urban League will honor Aurora Health Care with the Spirit of Diversity Award for 2010. Each year the Milwaukee Urban League presents this recognition to a company or organization that distinguishes itself by integrating diversity into the fabric of its workplace. Commitment to diversity can be demonstrated through the composition of the board, executive leadership and employees. A strong supplier diversity program and active support of diverse community organizations are considered as well. “Aurora Health Care has distinguished itself by making diversity an integral part of the organization,” says Ralph Hollmon, president and CEO of the Milwaukee Urban League. “Diversity plays a major role in Aurora’s board of directors, organizational leadership, workforce and its business partnerships. It would be an enormous benefit to our society if the rest of the business community followed Aurora’s example and brought a similar commitment to diversity into their organizations.” Aurora Health Care employs approximately 30,000 caregivers. Thirteen percent of those employees are minorities. Additionally 35 percent of Aurora’s Board of Directors are either minorities or women. “We strive to provide the best care possible in the communities we serve,” says Nick Turkal, MD, president and CEO of Aurora Health Care. “Every community is unique, so to accomplish this goal, we embrace diversity and nurture active partnerships. Aurora Health Care is honored and proud to accept this recognition from the Milwaukee Urban League.” Past recipients of the Spirit of Diversity Award include WE Energies, Quarles & Brady LLP, Manpower, Inc. and Northwestern Mutual.
