Aurora Health Care first in Milwaukee to move forward in electronic health records

Thursday, January 13, 2011

Milwaukee, Wi. – Aurora Health Care is on target to be the first health care system in Milwaukee to receive federal recognition for improving patient care through electronic health records.

January 2011 marks the first time in our nation’s history that hospitals and eligible healthcare providers can register their intent to achieve “meaningful use” of certified electronic health records (EHRs) and qualify for incentive payments under the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Beginning this month, eligible health care professionals, hospitals, and critical access hospitals may register to participate in the EHR incentive programs. Organizations and professionals around the country who anticipate meeting meaningful use requirements during Stage 1 of the program will be taking part in Nationwide EHR Incentive Program Registration events to demonstrate their commitment to improving quality healthcare for all patients.

Six Aurora hospitals are registered in this incentive program. The hospitals are Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, Aurora Sinai medical Center, Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore, Aurora West Allis Medical Center, Aurora Medical Center in Oshkosh, and Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington.

Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a national leader in efforts to improve health care quality. Aurora offers services at sites in more than 90 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.
