Dr. Ajay Sahajpal to perform in the National Kidney Foundation’s Spotlight on Life

Milwaukee, Wi. - Aurora Health Care’s Ajay Sahajpal, M.D., along with six other local health care executives, will be in the spotlight on Saturday, January 29, participating in a ballroom dance competition to support organ donation, promote awareness of Wisconsin’s new online donor registry and the National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin (NKFW).

Dr. Sahajpal, of Milwaukee, will be dancing to pay tribute to the second chances that are made possible through the miracle of transplants and the gift of organ donation. Modeled after the popular Dancing with the Stars, participants have been training with professional partners from Fred Astaire Dance Studios, and will be performing a variety of ballroom dances. Similar to the television program, the community is encouraged to vote for its favorite dancer by visiting www.spotlightonlife.org.

Votes cost $1, and all proceeds raised will be used to support donation and transplantation awareness efforts, the National Kidney Foundation U.S. Transplant Games® and the transplant recipients, living donors and donor family members who make up Team Wisconsin.

“I am trying to help out a great cause because I work with many patients everyday that live with kidney disease and need transplants,” said Dr. Sahajpal. “I dance for them. I am not nervous because I don't mind embarrassing myself for a good cause and for my patients.”

As for what dance he’ll be doing, Dr. Sahajpal is keeping it secret. “You will have to attend the event to see what dance I attempt to do,” he said.

“This event was created to shine the spotlight on the 1,700 men, women and children in Wisconsin who are still waiting for a life-saving transplant, and to draw attention to the critical need to increase organ, tissue and eye donation,” said Joanne MacInnes, event-co chair and Chair of the National Kidney Foundation Wisconsin Board of Directors.

“We are thrilled that so many health care executives and professionals are supporting this cause by dancing, and believe it highlights the critical importance of organ donation.”

Tickets for the Spotlight on Life benefit event are still available. To purchase, or for more information, visit www.spotlightonlife.org or call 1-800-543-6393, ext. 10.

The National Kidney Foundation of Wisconsin is a voluntary health organization dedicated to preventing kidney and urinary tract diseases, improving the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by these diseases, and increasing the availability of all organs for transplantation.
