Aurora St. Luke's, Sinai and West Allis hospitals stand highly in U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals rankingsTuesday, March 29, 2011Milwaukee – Three Aurora Health Care hospitals ranked among the top in metro Milwaukee in U.S. News & World Report's first Best Hospitals metro area rankings. Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center had the most high-performing specialties in the Milwaukee area. In general rankings Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center was second, Aurora Sinai Medical Center third and Aurora West Allis Medical Center fourth out of six hospitals in metro Milwaukee. In the area of high-performing specialties Aurora St. Luke’s had 12, more than any other hospital. Aurora Sinai had four specialties that qualified as high performing, and Aurora West Allis had two. The new rankings recognize 622 hospitals in or near major cities with a record of high performance in key medical specialties, including 132 of the 152 hospitals already identified as the best in the nation. There are nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide. The rankings identify hospitals exceptionally skilled at handling the most difficult cases, such as brain tumors typically considered inoperable and delicate pancreatic procedures. To be ranked in its metro area, a hospital had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties.
