Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Benefit Ball set for May 14Friday, April 29, 2011
Elkhorn, Wis. - Mark your calendar for the Aurora Lakeland Medical Center Benefit Committee’s 26th Annual Benefit Ball to be held at 6 p.m. on May 14 at the Geneva National Resort on scenic Lake Como. This black-tie event combines an evening of fun, fine food and dancing. Honorary chairperson this year will be Jeffery Scherer, MD.
The evening will include a silent auction and formal recognition of Dr. Scherer his more than 25 years of service to the local community.
“It has been very rewarding to be a part of our local hospital for so many years,” says Dr. Scherer. “Our community has been so supportive of the hospital and that has enabled us to strengthen our resources to better meet the needs of generations of residents.”
As part of the evening, the Margaret Schloemer Humanitarian Award will be presented to Tim McGregor, Mike Grover, John Monroe, and Kim O'Keefe, each founders of the McGMO Golf Outing. The McGMO was established in 1998 by four high school friends who have been touched by cancer. Over the years, the group has raised more than $405,000 for the Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland.
The honorees say that without this funding, any individual in the area struggling with cancer would have to travel a great distance to receive treatment. They feel that the Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Aurora Lakeland gives patients the opportunity to be close to home, family and friends at a crucial time in their lives and the lives of their loved ones.
The Benefit Ball has played a significant role in a number of projects at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, including the Obstetrics and Women's Health Unit renovation, creation of the women’s center at the hospital, and the addition of valuable clinical equipment in many hospital departments.
Proceeds from this year’s Benefit Ball will benefit expanding cardiac telemonitoring services at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center.
