Sheboygan, WI – The Premier healthcare alliance has presented Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center with the QUEST Award for High-value Healthcare. The award recognizes Aurora Sheboygan for excellence in high-value care delivery in the nationwide performance improvement collaborative.

Aurora Sheboygan was one of nine finalists out of 303 QUEST participating hospitals to receive the award. To do this, Aurora Sheboygan met thresholds over the first three quarters of the 2011 calendar year in the following categories:

• Mortality: eliminated 15 avoidable hospital deaths with a mortality rate of 0.94 percent.
• Cost of care: safely lowered costs by an average of $480 per patient.
• Evidence-based care: improved the delivery of recommended evidence-based care measures by 0.73 percent. Evidence-based care measures include interventions such as administering aspirin upon arrival and discharge, and smoking cessation for heart attack patients.
• Harm: reduced harm by 151.37 percent across 24 categories, including infections and birth injuries.
• Readmissions: reduced readmissions by 2.86 percent.

QUEST hospitals monitor and measure performance to ensure delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care. In their first three years, 157 QUEST hospitals saved nearly 25,000 lives and $4.5 billion.
