Aurora BayCare Medical Center receives three quality achievement awards for heart and stroke care

Green Bay, WI - Aurora BayCare Medical Center has received three Get With The Guidelines® Awards from the American Heart Association / American Stroke Association, recognizing commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care.

The three awards include:

  • Get With The Guidelines® - Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award, recognizing commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care by ensuring stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted guidelines.
  • Target: Stroke Honor Roll, for improving stroke care.
  • Get With The Guidelines®–Heart Failure Silver Quality Achievement Award, recognizing an aggressive goal of treating heart failure patients according to the guidelines of care recommended by the American Heart Association/American College of Cardiology.

“Aurora BayCare is dedicated to making our care for stroke and cardiac patients among the best in the country,” said Sarah Fenton, MD, FACC, interventional cardiologist with Aurora BayCare Medical Center. “The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines–Stroke and Heart Failure programs help us to accomplish this goal. This recognition demonstrates that we are on the right track and we’re very proud of our team.”

According to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, stroke is one of the leading causes of death and serious, long-term disability in the United States. On average, someone suffers a stroke every 40 seconds; someone dies of a stroke every four minutes; and 795,000 people suffer a new or recurrent stroke each year.

About 5.7 million people suffer from heart failure, according to the American Heart Association. Statistics also show that, each year, 670,000 new cases are diagnosed and more than 277,000 people will die of heart failure. However, many heart failure patients can lead a full, enjoyable life when their condition is managed with proper medications and devices and with healthy lifestyle changes.
