Friday, July 19, 2013

St. Luke’s, West Allis, Sinai ranked first, second and third, respectively in metro Milwaukee; Aurora BayCare one of Best in Northeastern Wisconsin

Milwaukee, WI – U.S. News & World Report has recognized four Aurora Health Care facilities as being the best in its 2013-14 Best Hospitals rankings, available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals.

The following Aurora hospitals were recognized:

Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center – ranked #1 in the Milwaukee metro area and #2 in Wisconsin

Aurora West Allis Medical Center – ranked #2 in the Milwaukee metro area and #3 in Wisconsin

Aurora Sinai Medical Center – ranked #3 in the Milwaukee metro area and #5 in Wisconsin

Aurora BayCare Medical Center – ranked #9 in Wisconsin and for the third year in a row is one of the Best Hospitals in Northeastern Wisconsin

This year, Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, in Milwaukee, ranks among the top 50 hospitals in the nation in four specialties: cardiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, neurology and neurosurgery and pulmonology.

Also, Aurora Sinai Medical Center ranks among the top 50 hospitals in the nation for geriatrics and is recognized as high-performing in the area of orthopedics.

Additionally, Aurora West Allis Medical Center ranks among the top 50 hospitals nationally for gynecology and is recognized as high-performing in the areas of cancer, gastroenterology, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

The rankings also highlighted Aurora BayCare to be high performing in the specialty areas of geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, orthopedics and urology.

U.S. News evaluates hospitals in 16 adult specialties. In most specialties, it ranks the nation’s top 50 hospitals and recognizes other high-performing hospitals that provide care at nearly the level of their nationally ranked peers.

“The Best Hospitals rankings assembled by U.S. News & World Report confirm our belief that Aurora Health Care continues to be a leading provider of advanced, high-quality healthcare services,” said Nick Turkal, MD, president and CEO of Aurora Health Care. “These rankings are a notable accomplishment as only about 15 percent of hospitals are recognized for high performance among the region’s best, and just three percent of all hospitals earn a national ranking in any specialty.”

U.S. News publishes Best Hospitals to help guide patients who need a high level of care because they face particularly difficult surgery, a challenging condition, or added risk because of other health problems or age. Objective measures such as patient survival and safety data, the adequacy of nurse staffing levels and other data largely determined the rankings in most specialties.

The specialty rankings and data were produced for U.S. News by RTI International, a leading research organization based in Research Triangle Park, N.C. Using the same data, U.S. News produced the state and metro rankings.

The rankings have been published at http://health.usnews.com/best-hospitals and will appear in print in the U.S. News Best Hospitals 2014 guidebook, available in bookstores and on newsstands August 27.
