Monday, July 28, 2014

Aurora Health Care also honored for supply chain innovation

Milwaukee – Premier, Inc., a healthcare improvement company, has recognized eight Aurora medical centers in Wisconsin with awards for providing high-quality and cost-efficient health care services. Premier also recognized an Aurora Health Care hospital for introducing the high-impact supply chain improvement ideas.

Aurora Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center, Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay and Aurora Medical Center in Summit received top performance in five of the six QUEST dimensions, each thereby earning a QUEST Award for High-Value Healthcare “Finalist” status. The QUEST dimensions include: cost of care; harm; evidence-based care; mortality; patient experience; and readmissions.

Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, Aurora Medical Center in Kenosha, Aurora Medical Center in Manitowoc County and Aurora Medical Center in Washington County received top performance in four of the six QUEST dimensions, each thereby earning a QUEST Award for High-Value Healthcare “Citation of Merit” status.

Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington received the Premier “Partnership for Patients” Award, which recognizes excellence of achievement by Premier members in hospital acquired conditions and readmissions, as part of the Partnership for Patients program.

Aurora Sinai Medical Center has been honored with the Premier “Supply Chain Excellence” Award, which recognizes member organizations that worked with Premier to introduce the most high-impact supply chain improvement ideas over the past year.

QUEST is a performance improvement collaborative of approximately 350 hospitals working to make healthcare safer, more efficient and consistently effective. Approximately 330 QUEST hospitals were eligible for the QUEST Award for High-Value Healthcare.

Susan DeVore, Premier President and CEO said, “QUEST hospitals have a really fresh perspective on the state of healthcare today, which they’re using to rethink the way care is provided and to design innovative changes that impact our future. It’s no easy task for health systems to do this on their own, so they work together to capitalize on the power of information. Our vision is to outperform in this industry together, on our own terms, which is exactly what Aurora is doing with its hospitals in Wisconsin. Premier congratulates them for the fantastic achievements they’ve made.”

The nation’s leading hospitals created QUEST to set new standards in healthcare that ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care. In five and a half years, they have saved more than 136,000 lives and $11.6 billion.

Top performance thresholds were established at the top quartile of performance from a baseline period in all measures except cost of care, which was based on the median of the total inpatient cost per case mix adjusted discharge. Top performance methodology for each dimension varied depending on the unique measure calculation and methodology.
