Assurant Health Foundation announces $100,000 grant to benefit Walker's Point Community ClinicWednesday, July 21, 2004
Money will help provide care to the uninsured, underinsured
MILWAUKEE, Wis, Assurant Health Foundation officials have announced a gift of $100,000 to benefit the Walker's Point Community Health Center and CORE El/Centro.
“The Assurant Health Foundation seeks to increase access to quality health care for all individuals in our community,” said Rob Guilbert, Assurant Health Foundation President. “We are proud to support the dedicated staff of Walker's Point and CORE/El Centro who, each day, are helping people in need get connected to quality care.”
Of the $100,000, $70,000 is being used to build two additional exam rooms and to provide a physician’s assistant for the clinic. The remaining $30,000 will help CORE/El Centro provide health education, exercise and complementary medicine such as acupuncture, massage therapy and movement classes.
Steve Ohly, a nurse practitioner and manager of the clinic, which is a joint effort of the University of Wisconsin Medical School and Aurora Health Care, added: “The impact of this gift is immeasurable. How can you put a price on a child’s health? Or the ability to relieve chronic pain? This grant will give patients more peace of mind by giving them access to quality health care, whether or not they are insured.”
The announcement was made at a news conference that included a demonstration of a movement class and tours of the clinic.
Aurora Health Care is a not-for-profit Wisconsin health care provider and a nationally recognized leader in efforts to improve the quality of health care. Aurora offers services at sites in 80 communities throughout eastern Wisconsin.
