Building Healthier Communities Campaign: Aurora Memorial Hospital of
Burlington Emergency Department Upgrade
Patient centered opportunity
Comfort and privacy play important roles in helping patients feel safe
and protected. Research supports a strong correlation between healing and
the environment.
Patients recognize the skilled care they receive from the physicians
and staff, but point out the confined space and lack of privacy are of
concern to them. The close proximity to others can be upsetting to those
receiving emergency care. Overhearing caregivers administering
lifesaving efforts to someone barely ten feet away, or observing the rush
of a critical pediatric case into the curtained area can be overwhelming.
We remain committed to providing the community with excellent clinical
care. At the same time, we know that the over 13,000 patients we see
annually will directly benefit from an upgrade focused on privacy and
comfort. The emergency department has not been updated since 1984.
Our vision
Enhancements to room lighting, sound containment, room temperature,
equipment accessibility and effective storage of emergency supplies will
improve overall patient care.
- Individual treatment rooms that protect a patient’s privacy
- Guest seating capacity so family can help to comfort their loved
ones • Accessibility for the use of equipment at the patient bedside
rather than having to move the patient to the equipment.
- Comfortable spaces designed to accommodate multiple caregivers
