How we know if we're succeeding
Measuring ourselves: breast cancer screening
The basic facts
- More than 46,000 women in this country die from breast cancer each year
- This could be reduced by 30% in women over age 50 if regular mammogram
schedules are followed
- The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends mammography screening
every 1 to 2 years, beginning at age 40, for healthy women at normal risk
Our mission is to increase the breast cancer screening rates in patients
treated by Aurora providers.
We measure the percent of our female patients ages 40 to 69 who had a
mammogram within the past 24 months.
In 2006, our screening (mammography) rate for female patients ages 40 to 69
was 66%.
